Introduction / History

The Carijonas were in the thousands in the 1840s, but today their population is probably under 1,000. Their demise came from the encroachment of rubber interests who encroached on their lands. Since that time they have moved numerous times and blended with other tribes.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Carijona families live in separate homes. They have a hierarchical system based on clans.

Their food source comes from growing casava, hunting and fishing. They sell handicrafts to earn money.

Outside groups want to make sure the Carijonas don t become extinct.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Carijonas have their own religion which involves magic and shamans. There is some Christian influence among them from the Roman Catholics.

What Are Their Needs?

Survival is a key need for the Carijonas. Will they survive as a people into the next century, or be blended in with the general population?

Prayer Points

Pray for the Lord to protect the Carijonas from hostile outsiders.
Pray for him to bless them physically and spiritually.
