Introduction / History

The Dagaari Jula, or the Yari, people group is scattered in south central Burkina Faso. Dioula is a group of peoples separated by location or language. The Dagaari speakers are one of their subgroups.

They are unique among Burkina Faso groups for several reasons. First, the group does not have a well-defined home region. They share certain villages with those of different ethnic groups, having a give and take relationship with their neighbors. A second characteristic of the group is the fact that almost all of them, especially in Burkina Faso are Muslims.

What Are Their Lives Like?

In general, they are subsistence farmers, though many are involved in commerce.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Dagaari Dioula are Sunni Muslims who carry traditional practices into their form of Islam.

What Are Their Needs?

A small number are Christians. These people need to be Christ bearers to their Muslim family members and neighbors.

Prayer Points

Pray the hearts of the Dagaari Dioula people would be stirred to hunger after God, to drink of living water.
Pray for family-based movements to Christ to soon transform Dagaari Dioula society, blessing them spiritually and economically.
Pray for the Lord to move in the hearts of local believers to give up their own rights and sacrifice their lives to see the Dagaari Dioula people blessed by the work of Jesus Christ, the only savior.
