Introduction

The Kalagans are the Islamized indigenous people in the Western Davao Gulf area. They are primarily farmers, raising rice, corn, abaca and coconut. They have a fairly elaborate social structure with different rankings given to families. They are Muslim, yet incorporate some animistic beliefs and practices into their religion. Muslim religious leaders and teachers (imams and panditas) direct religious life and teach young boys to read and memorize the Koran. Muslim holidays and other observances are celebrated to varying degrees.

Ministry Obstacles

Islam teaches that Jesus was a prophet and a good man, but not the only way to salvation. This teaching stands as a major barrier to the advance of the gospel in Muslim lands.

Outreach Ideas

Pray for the Followers of Christ

Pray for the Entire People Group

Pray for all the Muslim groups in the Philippines to live peacefully with their non-Muslim neighbors.
Pray for the government to know how to deal effectively with unrest in Muslim areas.
There is an indication there are several Catholic Christians among the Kalagan. Pray these Christians will be accurately taught the ways of Christ, live in obedience to him and be a light among the Kalagan.
