Introduction / History

The Amant people are also known as the Amanats. They speak Hindi, the most common language in the northern states of India. Most live in the eastern states of Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.

Like many Hindu communities, the Amant people place themselves higher in the caste system than others would. They consider themselves to be Sudras, a group that is the fourth and lowest of caste clusters. Others would consider them to be outside the caste system.

What Are Their Lives Like?

They are farmers, though some are artists, day laborers or carpenters.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Like many Hindu groups, the Amant's spiritual lives are crippled by astrology, which they think determines their destiny. Astrologers help them determine auspicious dates for important events like weddings. They worship the Hindu gods Thakurani and Mahadev.

What Are Their Needs?

The Amat people need to put all their faith and trust in Jesus Christ so they can enjoy the abundant life he offers his children.

Prayer Points

Pray that entire Amat families will soon turn to Christ, who came to give them life, and life to the full.
Pray for a chain reaction of families reaching families that results in thousands of new believers who share their faith with others.
Pray for grace and truth expanding into their entire society as all believers learn to love others.
