Introduction / History

The Katia are a scheduled caste mainly in Madhya Pradesh, but their bloodlines can be traced back to Rajasthan Gujarat and Uttrakhand. Some call them Retha Rajputs. In different regions, they come under different caste categories, OBC mainly. Spinning thread was their traditional work, but they no longer do that. They have subgroups and clans.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Katia now work in agriculture. Boys and girls are now getting educated but the gospel and other literature may need to be given in oral form.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Hinduism is their religion and they worship their own local gods. Many believe in Saint Bhura Bhagat, who worshipped the Lord Shiva. Women help in social and religious matters.

What Are Their Needs?

Many upper caste landowners have stopped giving work to people like the Katias and other low class communities who attempt to defy their ancient ways. The Katia community needs greater access to advanced education.

Prayer Points

Pray for faithful workers and intercessors who will not forget the Katia people.
Pray for Katia disciples to make more disciples so their community can thrive.
Pray for the gospel to penetrate every Katia family and community.
