The Pomlas are a tribal group with low status. They suffer from poverty.

Where Are they Located?

They live in western India, especially the states of Gujarat and Maharashtra.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Parents arrange marriages for their children. Marriages are monogamous, meaning that there is one husband and one wife.

Members of this community are usually landless, and they are very poor. Most are either day laborers or they sell things they find in the forest.

What Are Their Beliefs?

This is a Hinduized tribe that believes in ghosts and spirits as well as Krishna and Ganesh, two popular Hindu deities. They believe the spirit world brings about diseases. They have clan deities that they worship as well. Though they are mostly animistic on a daily level, they are faithful to participate in Hindu festivals.

What Are Their Needs?

The Pomla people need to find ways to earn a decent living in 21st century India.
