Introduction / History

The background for the Sargaras is Ksatryia, the warrior caste in South Asia. Most live in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. They were among the people who fought battles but settled down on farms when the fighting was over.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Today many have lost their land.

Those who breach community norms are fined and ostracized.

What Are Their Beliefs?

They profess Hinduism, and Chammunda and Ambajee are their family deities. Their regional deities are Hanuman, Shankar, Mahakali and Ramdevjee.

To follow Jesus is to breach community norms, bringing significant ostracism and disfavor.

What Are Their Needs?

The Sargara community needs the support of the Indian judiciary. Most live in rural areas where young women are pledged to be married at a very young age. This keeps women from getting the education they need.

Prayer Points

There likely are no followers of Jesus among the Sargara community today; but for those the Lord will soon lead to himself. Pray they will fully grasp the significance of Jesus' sacrificial death and will trust him fully for both forgiveness of sin and power to live life.
Pray they will have power to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.
Pray for God's blessing on the leaders in the Sargara community, along with their families, and for the Sargara people to welcome and enjoy God's provision.
