Introduction / History

The Xoco are a First Nations people in Brazil. Their language is no longer spoken; their people speak Portuguese, the trade language of Brazil.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Xoco people sell handicrafts for a living. This is largely because of pollution of the San Francisco River, where they once fished.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Since they are losing their language, they desperately want to keep their culture. For this reason, they make it a point to come together to perform religious rituals. They view these rituals as spiritually cleansing. There is a small Roman Catholic presence among them, but it is not part of their identity.

What Are Their Needs?

The Xoco people need to adapt to a changing world. They will eventually need education in new areas. This will take them out of their comfort zone.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Lord to provide protection and mercy for the Xoco people of Brazil.
Pray for members of the Xoco tribe who love the Lord to teach Christ to others.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to move among the Xoco people this decade, providing them with a hope and a purpose.
