Introduction / History
Jiripanco lives near the city of Pariconha in Brazil. They migrated there to avoid persecution and drought. Now they are in two groups that maintain relations. In the 1980s they sent representatives to the capital city, Bras lia, in hopes of protecting their rights.
What Are Their Lives Like?
The Jiripancos have eight communities, but their land does not sustain agriculture. They do the best they can to grow corn, but they have to work as sharecroppers cutting sugar cane to get enough money to buy food. They grow cashews, jackfruits and mangos in the winter.
They have sturdy homes built from bricks. Each home has a bathroom and a TV set. There is health care on the weekends and schools for their children. Their water comes from the S o Francisco River.
What Are Their Beliefs?
The Jiripancos believe in Mother Earth. She sustains them by providing for their needs to grow food. There are Catholic Churches, and the Jiripancos faithfully attend mass.

The Jiripancos need to find their way to Jesus Christ as their only source of comfort and provision.
