Introduction / History

The Letuamas are an indigenous group in Colombia. They speak a language called Tanimuca-Letuama because they share a language with the Tanimucas.

There were many confrontations between the Letuamas and rubber tappers during the rubber boom of the late 1800s and early 1900s. By the end of the 1940s, they established missions to provide a safe refuge for the Letuamas.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Letuama lifestyles include hunting, fishing, food gathering and farming. They grow cassava, their staple food. They also grow various fruits, tubers and chili peppers.

In each settlement, there are one or two large communal homes known as malokas. The line of descent is patrilineal and they have clans.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Most Letuamas are involved with traditional religion. Only about 10 percent identify as Christian, and very few of these are Evangelical.

What Are Their Needs?

The Letuamas need an adequate gospel witness.

Prayer Points

Pray for evangelists and disciplers to go to the Letuamas.
Pray that they will see and experience healings in the name of Jesus, that will draw them to the only savior.
Pray for them to understand and embrace all of the Lord s blessings for their families.
