Introduction / History

The Awori are a subgroup of the Yoruba people in Nigeria. They have also been described as a clan. They have been in the same location since the 19th century.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Though the Awori people are often fishermen, they are also great farmers. They raise goats, chickens, quail, etc., but they also grow crops.

Among their favorites are maize, yams and cassava. They also produce mats, baskets and palm oil. There has also been an industrial revolution in the Awori homeland, so many work in factories.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Awori people value knowing their future, so they look to soothsayers. They have a Christian influence, but it’s blended with animism and Islam. With some exceptions, their faith is in the spirit world, not in the Lord of lords.

What Are Their Needs?

The Awori people need to put all their faith in Christ so they can live life more abundantly.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Awori people to put all their faith in the only savior.

Pray for Awori disciples who will make more disciples.

Pray for Nigerian missionaries to disciple them in the ways of Christ and teaching them to disciple others.
