Introduction / History

The Parenga Parja are a Scheduled tribe that lives in the district of Koraput in Odisha. They speak Odiya, the language of Odisha.

What Are Their Lives Like?

They work in agriculture. Parenga Parja women help their husbands in farm work. Marriage is between one man and one woman. They have several clans. They allow for remarriage after one spouce dies.

The Parenga Parja have a council to look after their needs. They have a low literacy level so the gospel will need to be presented in oral forms.

What Are Their Beliefs?

They have their own tribal religion but are considered Hindus. Hinduism is flexible enough to be used as the label for most locally grown religions in South Asia.

What Are Their Needs?

The Parja Parenga people need the transforming power of Jesus Christ so they can experience his spiritual, economic and social blessings.

Prayer Points

Pray that the council leaders will come to Jesus Christ and lead others to him. Pray that gospel recordings and the JESUS Film will become easily available to them. Pray for intercessors and workers.
