Kaike is a language spoken by 2,000 people about 60 years ago. Today less than 100 speak it. They are an isolated people, and there has not been a linguistic study of them. They rarely leave their homeland.
In Kathmandu, the name “Kaike” is used derisively for any large man with Tibetan appearance who tends to fly into a violent rage. They also apply the term to unscrupulous youths with a Tibetan appearance. With that kind of reputation they feel insecure and rejected. Other people in Nepal make fun of their language.
For countless generations they have worshipped Buddha, completely oblivious to the existence of Jesus Christ. As Tibetan Buddhists, they blend the shamanistic bon religion with Mahayana Buddhism.
The light of the gospel has yet to shine in most of the villages and homes in this impoverished and remote part of the world. The presence of Maoist rebels in western Nepal has complicated evangelistic efforts and made many of the inhabitants of the area fearful of visitors. There are no known Christians among the Kaike people. No Scripture or gospel messages have yet been translated into their language.
Pray for the Kaike people to have hearts that are open to the abundant blessings of Jesus Christ.
Pray for their families to prosper financially and spiritually as they experience a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Pray for a movement to Christ among the Kaike that will spread joy, peace and salvation to other peoples.
