Introduction / History

The Tata people group live in four large villages among the remote Nuba Mountains in the state of South Kordofan, Sudan. Their heart language is Tata and they also speak Sudanese Arabic.

What Are Their Lives Like?

They keep cows, sheep and goats for milk and meat and cultivate sorghum and corn for their daily consumption.

What Are Their Beliefs?

About two-thirds of the Tata people identify as Muslim. Others retain their traditional tribal religious practices.

What Are Their Needs?

The Tata people have no schools or health care facilities.
