Introduction / History

The Kawiyaris live near the middle Aparporis River and a tributary. Despite their small size as a tribe, they retain their language, Cabiyari.

The Kawiyaris suffered from outsiders exploiting their land for tapping rubber trees between the end of the 1800s and the 1960s. After that, there were those who used the land to grow coco to produce cocaine.

What Are Their Lives Like?

They get their food source from wild fruits, hunting, fishing and growing sweet potatoes, cassavas, bananas, chili peppers and cashews. Commonly, they exchange these goods with neighboring tribes. Most live near a river for their water source and fishing opportunities.

What Are Their Beliefs?

A high percentage are Christian, usually Roman Catholic. There are also Evangelicals among them.

What Are Their Needs?

There are times when the Kawiyaris need protection. They are understandably suspicious of outsiders.

Prayer Points
