There is controversy regarding the status of the Chidar people. Some believe they are from a low status community while others say they are from the prestigious Rajputs. They live in India's central state of Madhya Pradesh and speak Hindi, India's most common language.
They have adopted occupations like being village watchmen, militiamen, farmers, masons, teachers, civil service workers and businessmen. Few of them own land, and wage labor is on the increase in their communities. Chidar families decide whom their children will marry. In recent years, the age of marriage has risen among them.
They have been given job and college placement reservations because of their lower economic condition. They are well respected in villages but follow some of vices common to their part of India.
These devout Hindus worship Devi Durga as their patron deity.
They need the Holy Spirit to empower them to open their eyes and see Jesus, the only one worthy of their praise and worship.
Pray that soon the Chidar people will find Jesus so compelling that they will give up worshiping all Hindu gods and give Christ their full devotion.
Pray for Christian workers to go to the Chidar people until they have a movement to Christ.
Pray for a spiritual hunger among the Chidar people that will lead them to the cross.
